What is Islam?

What is Islam?

The word "Islam" originates from the Arabic language and carries with it some interesting meanings: "surrender", "submission" or voluntary "surrender" to God.

Furthermore, the term "Islam" is derived from the Arabic word "Salam", which literally means peace.

"Allah" is the Arabic word meaning God,

used by Arabic speakers.

The history of the Islamic religion begins in the seventh century, and extends to the present day, having marked the history of many peoples in different parts of the world. Today there are more than 1.8 billion Muslims in the world, which is approximately one fifth of the world population. Thus, we can understand Islam as a global faith, for all, not limited to the East or West, to a particular nation, color, ethnicity or tribe.

Islam is a religion that has its teachings contained in the Quran and Sunna of the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.A.S). Muslims believe that the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.A.S) and that through this, the life of the Prophet and the Holy Quran are the main sources of teaching for the followers of Islam.
