Qur'an

The Holy Qur'an

The Qur'an Definition

The Qur'an is the holy book of Muslims. The term "Qur'an" comes from the translation of the Arabic word "al Qur'an", which means "the recitation". This explains why Muslims strive to memorize the verses of the Qur'an and recite them from the very beginning of Islam.

When Prophet Muhammad (S.A.A.S.) was 40 years old, the Angel Gabriel, the same Angel who announced to Mary that she would be the mother of Jesus, initiated the revelation of the Quran to him. On this occasion, the prophet was meditating in the cave of Hira in the city of Mecca when the Angel showed him the revelation for the first time. After this episode, the Angel Gabriel made new revelations to the prophet over a period of 23 years.

Upon coming into contact with the revelation, the prophet spent the rest of his life preaching the Islamic message to all the people around him. He taught the oneness of God, peace, justice, harmony, and well-being to the people around him.

Therefore, the Holy Quran is considered the greatest miracle of Islam and Muslims consider it literally the Word of God.
